Much cheaper than an exhaust brake, and works great. It's a simple exhaust brake - closes the exhaust back pressure valve and causes some engine drag, so you don't have to use the brakes as much. This is a simple tune used only for coming down the mountain.
Ford sells an auxiliary idle controller (AIC) for this, but it's several hundred dollars.Ĥ. That prevents incomplete combustion that can cause all sorts of nasties to form in your engine. If you allow the engine to idle more than a couple of minutes, maybe to run the AC while you're stopped, then you want to elevate the idle to about 1,200 RPM. You'll love the performance of the 40-tow tune.ģ. You don't tow, but you need the same tune a pickup would need when towing heavy trailer. Performance tunes confuse the heck out of their diag equipment.Ģ. You always want the Ford stock tune available if you ever need to turn a Ford tech loose with your rig.
